| Exillon aka Jay Fields began playing drums at 12, was hooked on guitar by 13, started fiddling around with a bass at 15, and then his family got their first computer. He played drums with a band for 4 years, but a need to have absolute control over every aspect of his music propelled him into solo electronic work. At age 16 his friends Alex & Jesse introduced him to a simple, sample based sequencer called Impulse Tracker that was being used amongst the demo scene. Curiosity quickly evolved into a disturbing infatuation. And his dedication shows with the elegance of his music. Taking pride in the fact that he utilizes no hardware elements in his rig, he brings strictly computer based music to a new level. Like a true obsessive compulsive Fields can often be seen quietly working on his laptop polyrythms during his lunch break, on the bus, or on the train. His first release on Zod Records, demonstrates his dedication to perfection, and is indicative of great things to come… Prequiem released by Component Records (RIP) soon followed in 2004, a full length exploration into the world of experimental electronic music with a peculiar dance/pop aesthetic. The albums name was coined from David Woodard’s (manufacturer of fine Dream Machines) definition of the word, a piece of music for someone to die to. An album of modern electronic songwriting brought together by a strong thread of emotionality and musical talent, Exillon’s most recent full length album, The Keening Dithers, places this musician at the forefront of today’s electronic composer, but never fails to inspire the listener. All along the 11 songs of this album, Exillon presents a deep, inspired side of his talent, bringing together a developed character and impressive composition skills. Upcoming releases are planned for PuZZling Records, Sublight Records and continued releases on his home label, Ad Noiseam. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] | |
